What truth?

I don’t know about you.  But I am seriously tired of businesses that tell us what ever it takes for us to choose them to fill the need that has arrived in our lives. It not only frustrates me short term but certainly turns me off to use them again.  

Why do we as business owners have such a short term mindset that we think that we can make just one sell today?  It’s like we are not going to be in business very long.  As a business owner and a client of many businesses, I want to work long term with others around me. I would like to bless others through the business I conduct everyday, not just look out for my pocket. 

Ok I am going to tell you the real story and what got me on this brain wave. J

This morning I woke up with my oldest bonus kid home from college.  We are so excited to have the opportunity to spend time with her.  She is such a blessing in our lives, and her presence makes all of us happy. What a blessing she is in our lives.  Ok I know I said that twice.

Finally it was time to work.  My hubby handed me an email that came earlier in the day.  The email was from a person I had spoken to the night before; they were having some issues with one of their appliances. They had made an appointment with another company, and the signs I saw was that other company was simply not looking out for the client’s best.   So I gave her a little information on how to make sure she was getting what she needed.  In the email she explained how it helped her to get things done right and that next time she would call us first.   Now I will be honest that that kind of situation gives me a boost.  I love the feeling of actually being a blessing to others around me. Did we make a cent off of it?  No.   Am I able to do that every time? No. I wish I could say I look out for each and every clients needs above my own and these are the results I always have.   Now that is my goal. 

It really does not matter what you do and who you work with, we can be a blessing to others.  We can take our daily activities and look out for the people around us.  If we do this it will set our businesses apart from the the rest.  People want to work with others who tell them the truth, the whole truth.  People want to work with others who have their best interest at heart.

What is on the inside?   Ok it’s easy to do that when we are not squeezed, when we don’t have to give up something, when we are talking about how some other company works.  But the squeeze will come! 

When you squeeze a lemon, lemon juice comes out.  

When you an apple, apple juice comes out.  You get the idea.   So when we are squeezed what comes out? 

Lets say we gave a wrong bid or maybe a part did not work, or who knows but the client needs an advocate.  What do we do?  The inside becomes visible on the outside.    Doing the right thing is not always popular and simply not always easy, but the more we do it the easier it becomes.  The more we behave in a truthful upright way the easier it is to see truth say truth and show truth in our lives.  Therefore in truth we can be a blessing to others in all that we do.

All In a Days Work

It is birthday weekend at our home.  This weekend will be fun-filled and exciting.  Five birthday people in our home for an entire weekend.  Mom and Dad are driving in from New Mexico, and all but one of our kids will be here.  The one being off at college. Now considering that we have 8 kids that is a bunch of people in its self.  Normally we have plenty of room, but that may not be the case this weekend.

I have figured out where everyone will sleep and how we will arrange the seating and more.  Getting ready for this event has been a challenge at best. My personality is not the type that stays organized.  That is an understatement.   For those of you who have studied under Dani Johnson.  I am a sapphire also known as a sanguine (which sounds more like a disease) maybe you heard it called a blue.  But what ever you use.  I am the fun loving over energetic non organized person.

So growing into the mother of many has put me a serious path of personal growth. It is easy to use this as an excuse to not accomplish the things needed to be done, or not to do them well- with excellence.   I am sure there are others of you like myself who has challenges with staying organized.

But as a mom of many, homeschooler, wife, business person what ever it is we do daily being organized is an area we cannot compromise on.  I have struggled fought to the point of today where I can finally say I am at least more organized that I used to be.  Studying those other personalities who do it so easily has been a blessing or most of the time. This is what I have come up with that has worked for me.  I thought I would share it and see if it could work for others too.

1. To do list.  My too list has changed, write specifics down with a time frame to accomplish it.   How do you eat an elephant?  One bite at a time.  Making my to-dos into small doable “bites”

2. calander- keep a calendar that works with your lifestyle.  It needs to be where you are.  There are lots of great tools with a computer or iPhone that can be used.  But if that does not work there are plenty other ways to keep a good schedule.  Write down really what you can accomplish, be specific again.

3. activities – keep on task.  But also make time to enjoy life.  If we only work and never give our families or ourselves time off, it effects the results we have when we do work.  I find that if I work for focused periods of time with exact results that need to be accomplished I can get twice as much done in half the amount of time.

4. Goals – We all have things that need to be done, and we don’t the time energy or what ever to get them done now.   Writing down a list of these including the areas and when they should be done by and a priority list number.

5.  Eyes open – The last thing that has helped me be more organized and able to accomplish more is keeping my eyes open.  Seeing what things I am neglecting in.  So often I get caught up in getting my list done that I miss many things that need to be accomplished if I would just open my eyes I could prevent trouble or create a great accomplishment.

Reading and other Facts of Life

This week we have been concentrating on getting my youngest daughter reading.  Many of you may not know this but we homeschool her.  Which is very fun. She loves when we “do school”but has not wanted to work on reading because. “It’s not fun” This week we have been giving our full attention to reading and getting her to where she can read independently.  Now five days in she is starting to pick up books and reading some by herself.  Watching the light turn on in your child as he or she learns  is amazing.  There is no way better to help your relationship than to have moments where you are working together.  But it does take work. As does all things that will last.   It won’t just happen because you want it too.  She will often  say to me  but we did that yesterday.

Repetition and focus is the way to long term change.

We are using this great little system called “Alpha-Phonics” by Samuel L Blumenfeld.  It is not new or has the greatest technology but it is simple and very effective. In life, in school, in business we often want to skip the basics and get right to the stuff we enjoy.  But building a database of knowledge is the only way to build anything that will last.  My kid wants to do the fun projects but if she does not know how to read the instructions she will not ever be able to do those things with out the help of others.  aka me

But like most things in life, one area relates to another.  So I have to ask myself what areas of knowledge I have skipped to get instant results and making it where I can not do it again?

What basics do I need to go back to and relearn in a way that will affect my bottom line not only this month but many months to come?

What can I focus on not only today but for the coming months that will change results for a long time?

Am I exchanging technology for results? Yes I writing this on my blog In today’s world we believe if we have large twitter following a good size Facebook , a blog , the right phone and all the technology updates that it will be no big deal to grow a large business.  But seriously a business is grown with relationships not technology.  We can use technology to help us create stronger relationships, but on the other hand it can weaken the relationships we already have.  So many pretend lives are created.

Hype vs Reality

Today is beautiful, the rain is out again. I love it when it lightly rains. The ground takes the moister in. It is not very often where I can walk outside and feel the sprinkles all around me. Normally we have thunderstorms that blast rain all about. The lighting is bright and the lighting can scare the kids till they run down to get me. The ground is not ready, moisture of the rain runs off and never is absorbed. Then if it keeps going for long enough floods began to happen.

The contrast of the two is much like what we do in life. Having good a conversation can be much like light rain. Creating a true relationship, It moisturizes your soul. After all we were not created to live this life with out others around us. Somehow we start a business and think it must be different, we must give a show for others to buy from us. That we have to sale people to buy what we have. We can be like a thunderstorm, lights and noise all about. But when it comes right down to it. It does not produce anything that is worth talking about. The words fall fast and land on deaf ears. The lightning and thunder simply does one thing it runs off the person who you thought it would attract. Then if it does not work often hype starts up.

This does not work. In fact if it is done enough, a reputation will be built and a business along with all the relationships that was created before will be ruined. So often we think we are in business to make money. The reality is we are in business to serve our clients and the people we work with. In order to have the ability to serve more people we must make enough money to keep going.

What does work, is when we are looking to help others above our own needs. When we see that our business is only a tool to bless others. To communicate with them in a way they can understand and always be looking for the next person whom we can bless.

This morning I received a phone call from a long lost friend whom I had not seen or heard from in many years.  They had no idea what was going on in my life or even cared to call before.  When suddenly I got a call, why because they started a new business and wanted to sale me something.  They did not ask how I was or how the kids were.  They only wanted me to get me to give them the credit card number.  Ugg this kind of disregard for others drives me crazy.  I don’t mind the call.  It is how to handle yourself when you make such a call.  Are you looking to just sale or help someone.  Are you looking for a fast sale or a long term relationship? The thunderstorm on the other end of the phone was tremendous.  What they had did everything but make breakfast for you.  But in the end they still have no sale,  If they would have called with the idea of creating a relationship and seeing if this might work for me the outcome would have been different.  Having a business never gives you the excuse to have bad manners.  It should be the opposite.

Be a Hero in Your own life starting TODAY!

Hope is like the new bud on a tree in spring!

I have talked to so many people who have no hope. They literally have no idea what they are going to do to change the results they are getting. Often I see people who think if they just keep things going the resutls will change. But then there are those who are willing to take action and move into an area that might be confusing or scarey. But the truth is to get new results, one must take new actions. I never have understood how we so stuck in the ruts we get stuck in. We think if we find the right job or the right opportunity things will just fall into place.  But the thing is it wont just find us with no work on our part.  Taking action is how we become a hero in our own lives.

Today can be the begining for spring in your life.

Spring to me represents the beginning of a new season of growth. I have told my kids proably thousands of times that today you will forget things so in order to keep up you must learn more than you forgot. The problem is we stop growing, stop planting the seeds, start to get comfortable with our lives our results our happiness level. But spring changes things. Living in Texas spring can be beutiful with a day of sunshine and a light breeze. The plants show growth and the golfers are out on the field loving every minute of it. But then suddenly it is time to run for cover dark skies show up with lightning and thunder hail and potentially a toranadoe head in the middle of it. But even though that does happen I love spring. I love to plant flower and vegitables. I love to have the hope of a new season, now summer will me here soon and the truth growth season will be here with the heat getting us ready for the harvest. Not that you don’t have things to harvest daily as you work. The big harvest will come during fall . But the thing is in our lives is we need to know what season we are in. In the Bible it says Ecclesiastes 3¹ There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.

What season are you in?

Spring always comes first. The activity of spring is plowing, and planting seeds,  All the seeds will not grow so if you understand that you know you will have to plant alot of seeds and if you dont plant seeds the harvest will never arrive.

Summer will eventually be here!  It will be hot and there will be lots of weeding and preparing for the harvest and you will have to continue to plant seeds.

Fall momentum will come only if you do what it takes for it to arrive.  Lots of fun great weather and harvest.  Taking the harvest and preparing for winter and for the next spring.   We can not consumme all the harvest and not leave anything to plant for the next season or there will be trouble.

Winter is cold. At least in other parts of the world it is cold and you need enough food to survive.  So knowing what it takes to survive winter will help you plan in spring. You also can prepare by having a green house to grow all the time Teach some one else to take action and you teach them to become the hero in there own life!
